Emily Dickinson: The One They Remembered

I've been thinking quite a bit about how I'd like to be remembered after I die. I think it's due to the topic of legacy being in my local zeitgeist with the looming graduation. A different kind of death. A quieter one. Not nearly as tragic of course.

I wonder how I will be remembered in the far off future if at all. Even if I am only recalled by generations of crows my spirit will rest. If I am remembered by others that is even better.

Emily Dickenson is remembered as a shut in, and rarely for her flower garden or exhuborent correspondences. Here are a couple of quotes from her that reveal a bit about who she was.

“I would like to learn. Could you tell me how to grow, or is it unconveyed, like melody or witchcraft?”

“I went to school, but in your manner of the phrase had no education. When a little girl, I had a friend who taught me Immortality; but venturing too near, himself, he never returned.”
